Original Italian 39x55 Poster for the Mervyn LeRoy directed tearjerker WATERLOO BRIDGE (1940). The film stars the radiant Vivien Leigh in the first picture that she made for MGM. It also stars Robert Taylor, one of MGM's most durable leading men. The film takes place in the months immediately prior to World War I. Leigh is an aspiring dancer who meets a handsome Army officer. They fall in love, and then he is called up. What ensues is one of the most tragic of the MGM romances. No spoliers here, but get two handkerchiefs if you decide to watch this one. Look for it on Turner Classic Movies, or it is available streaming, probably. The art on this poster is by Ercole Brini, and it is very painterly. Beautiful of Vivien Leigh.
