The story concerns Union and Confederate soldiers who do not know that the Civil War has ended and the conflicts that ensue between them. The film was directed by Phil Karlson who replaced Roger Corman after Corman left the film soon after filming began. The original script was to have been written by Robert Towne, but was instead penned by Halsted Welles after Corman left.
