Director Tuttle made Ladd into a star with this film as well as creating the first in a series of successful film starring Ladd and Lake. Ladd plays killer Philip Raven who shoots a blackmailer and his girlfriend but is paid off in marked bills by his treasonous employer, Willard Gates (Cregar), who is working for foreign spies. Meanwhile, Lake plays an entertainer who is enlisted by a Senate committee to investigate Gates. She meets Raven on a train, and they become uneasy allies. This great compelling crime drama stands the test of time quite well. With stunning artwork by Maurice Kallis, this one sheet has been acclaimed as one of the greatest movie posters ever designed and remains to this day as one of the most sought after titles in the poster collecting world.
