Warner Bros Original Movie Poster (85x109) for the first release in Italy of the Joshua Logan directed drama SAYONARA (1957). The film was one of the seminal films of the 1950s in the United States. It stars Marlon Brando, Patricia Owens, James Garner, Martha Scott, Miiko Taka, Red Buttons and Miyoshi Umeki. The film concerns what was a touchy subject in the decade following World War II, the romances and marriages of U.S. servicemen stationed in Japan and Japanese Nationals. It is based on a novel by James A. Michener, so the film was familiar territory for the sometimes moody Logan, who had directed the musical SOUTH PACIFIC on Broadway, also based on material by Michener. It was nominated for ten Oscars and won four, including a pair of statuettes for Red Buttons and Miyoshi Umeki, another pair of star-crossed lovers in the story. Miiko Taka, who is pictured on the poster, plays the geisha for whom Brando falls hard. Taka is the only principal member of the cast who is still alive.
