SANJURO was conceived as a stand-along film, adapted from a short story "Hibi Heian" by Shugoro Yamamoto. But after the enormous success of YOJIMBO, Kurosawa adapted the story to tell the further history of YOJIMBO'S warrior. There is plenty of action, but also a healthy dose of comedy. SANJURO is technically impressive with superb cinematography by Fukuzo Koizumi. The Italian release was handled by Titanus and was initially shown at a festival in 1965.
