Original 20th Century Fox U.S. One-Sheet Poster for the naval film SAILOR OF THE KING (1953) directed by Roy Boulting. The movie featured the first starring role of Jeffrey Hunter, who played a Canadian naval officer serving on a British vessel during World War I. This was actually a British film, with the cast filled out by a group of distinguished International actors: Michael Rennie, Peter van Eyck, Wendy Hiller. The movie was based on a novel by C.S. Forester, "Brown on Resolution." Filmed in the Mediterranean, just off Malta, the film is well known by naval movie fans. Hunter was an American actor, and was cast in this role, over the objections of some in the U.K. because of accent considerations, but also because, undoubtedly, he was a up and coming young actor at Fox.
