Original Russian One Sheet Poster (21x32) for the Andrei Tarkovsky drama, THE SACRIFICE (1986) starring Erland Josephson and Susan Fleetwood. This is the story of Alexander, an elderly academic who lives with his family in rural Sweden and who, on the eve of World War III, tells his young son his worries about the lack of spirituality of modern mankind. Tarkovsky was the most famous Soviet filmmaker since Eisenstein. He initially studied music and Arabic before enrolling in the Soviet film school. He went to Italy in 1982 and never returned to his home country. This was his last film made in Sweden while he was dying of lung cancer. The film was nominated for five awards at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival and won four. This original Russian poster is in fine condition.
