Original Italian First Release Rare First Paramount Release Billboard Fine Plus Condition
Original Italian Large Format Billboard Poster (77x157 inches) for the Daniel Mann directed drama THE ROSE TATTOO (1955). The film featured two of the biggest international starts of their day. Burt Lancaster, the athletic leading man, American film legend. Anna Magnani, the earthy, fiery diva of the Italian cinema, one of the best actresses the medium has ever known. The film also stars Jo Van Fleet and Marisa Pavan. THE ROSE TATTOO was written as a three-act play by Tennessee Williams in 1949 and 1950, and it opened on Broadway in February, 1951, and won the Tony Award that year for Best Play. The rights for a film production were soon acquired by Hal Wallis, and the film was released in December of 1955. Williams had written the play with Anna Magnani in mind, but she felt that her English language skills were not good enough. By the time the film came along, she was up to the task. The honors that followed her appearance in the film were many, including an Academy Award for Best Actress, the first Oscar awarded to an Italian actress. Indeed, the first Oscar awarded to an actress whose native language was not English. She also won the BAFTA, The Golden Globe, The National Board of Review Award, and The New York Critics Film Circle Award for Best Actress. She is illustrated on this huge poster by the great Ercole Brini. This poster is quite large and beyond rare. We invite any questions you might have. MovieArt Original Film Posters in Austin, Texas guarantees that this poster is the authentic Italian 12-foglio poster for this Paramount Film. MovieArt Austin does not sell reproductions.
