Warner Brothers Original U.S. Half Sheet Poster (22x28) for the Howard Hawks directed western RIO BRAVO (1959), starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Rick Nelson, Ward Bond, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan, John Russell, and Pedro Gonzalez Gonzalez. This very entertaining movie was the template for several John Wayne / Howard Hawks films that came after it. Wayne plays the sheriff in a town menaced by gunfighters. Dean Martin plays his deputy with a bad drinking problem. Rick Nelson is a green-behind-the-ears deputy, who adds a little youth to the whole thing. And Angie Dickinson is the dance hall girl that is trying to rope the sheriff. All these seem to be stock characters now, but they were not so much in 1959. And their fates are all stitched together in a great screenplay by Jules Furthman and Leigh Brackett. But of course other great star of the film is Howard Hawks, one of the great Hollywood masters. Drop in a great score by Dimitri Tiomkin and you have RIO BRAVO. This half-sheet was originally folded, but it has been stored flat for some time.
