This film is the animated musical version of Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. The lonely carpenter Geppetto carves a wooden boy named Pinocchio who comes to life after his creator "wishes upon a star." The Blue Fairy tells Pinocchio that he can become a real boy if he leads an honest, exemplary life, but Pinocchio's naivete and suggestibility make him an easy target for the criminal element that wishes to exploit him at every turn. PINOCCHIO won two Academy Awards for music, and the Leigh Harline and Ned Washington song "When You Wish Upon a Star" became so iconic that Walt Disney pictures adopted it as its official theme.
