MGM Original Three Sheet Poster (41x81) Folded Very Good Condition
MGM Original Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the musical-comedy PANAMA HATTIE (1942) starring Red Skelton, Dan Dailey, Ann Sothern, Virginia O'Briend, Carmen Morales. And look for Lena Horne in the movie also. The film was directed by MGM veteran director Norman Z. McLeod. PANAMA HATTIE had been a musical on Broadway with songs by Cole Porter. But when MGM made the film with their up-and-coming comic Red Skelton, they decided to use only four of Porter's songs and to substitute some other numbers to fill out the program. The poster is typical of the MGM stone lithographs that comprise most of their three and six-sheets from the early forties. Pictures like this one bucked up American moviegoers in the first uncertain very uncertain period of World War II. Red Skelton is shown in a sailor's cap with the moniker "He dood it again." If this is indecipherable to some of you, Skelton got laughs in his pictures in the early years with his often tossed-off phrase "I dood it." But it's the wonderful Ann Sothern who is front and center on this poster. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is an authentic poster from this film. It's a vintage poster that dates from the first U.S. release. MovieArt Austin will sell NO reproductions.
