Universal-International French Grande Poster (47x63) for the Delbert Mann directed war film THE OUTSIDER (1961). The film told the story of Ira Hayes, a Native American soldier who helped to raise the flag on Iwo Jima in World War II. Hayes faces derision in the service from some of his fellow soldiers, but after the famous photo of the flag raising becomes iconic, Hayes is celebrated as a hero. He feels the recognition is not entirely deserved and, dealing with trauma and depression, he turns to alcohol. He is recruited by the tribes to go to Washington to help raise money for irrigation bonds, which he does after sobering up. But after this success, he finds that he is shunned by his peers who are ashamed of his behavior. Ira Hayes' story has been told several times in books and films, and in this one, Tony Curtis turns in a great performance. He is joined in the film by James Franciscus, Bruce Bennett, Charles Stevens, Gregory Walcott and Edmund Hashim. The poster is one of the most affecting French posters for an American film of the 1960s, with great art by Roger Soubie. Paramount Pictures Original TEASER One-Sheet Poster (27x41) for the John Guillermin directed film KING KONG (1976). This version of the story of the giant ape from Skull Island was the first time that the film had been remade since the first classic version was released in 1933. Naturally, the wide screen color version was hoped to be more spectacular than the original, and, of course, in some respects this was true. But the magic of the original was missing in this version. Jessica Lange was the blonde that Kong was enamoured with, and she turned in an acceptable performance. The film also featured Jeff Bridges and Charles Grodin.
