Embassy Pictures Corporation Italian Photobusta Set (10 individual posters) for the Russell Rouse directed film THE OSCAR (1966). This huge flop has become a subject of some fascination decades after its release to scathing critical response and indifferent audiences. A stellar cast including Stephen Boyd, Elke Sommer, Eleanor Parker, Joseph Cotten, Jill St. John, Tony Bennett, Edie Adams, Ernest Borgnine, Milton Berle, Broderick Crawford and a host of others could not rescue this movie. Hollywood has rarely been totally successful in turning the cameras on itself, much less for the Oscars. This film aspired to fit into the basket of epic potboilers like THE CARPETBAGGERS or HARLOW. These Italian photobustas served much the same purpose in Italian cinemas as lobby cards did in the U.S., which is to give the moviegoer a visual overview of what he could expect from the movie. There are ten posters in this set and each measure 26 x 18.25 inches. Not all are pictured here. The posters come in the original valise from Embassy. These posters were used in a cinema in Italy, and were folded. They show general signs of wear and there are, in places, some inventory numbers that are hole-punched in the paper unobtrusively.
