The film stars Betty Hutton, one of Paramount's biggest stars in the 1940s, and Eddie Bracken. For many years the movie was overshadowed by Preston Sturges previous films, but in recent times fans and critics have come to appreciate the film in it's own right. Also appearing in the movie are William Demarest, Porter Hall, Diana Lynn, Emory Parnell, Al Bridge, and Victor Potel. ImdbPro summarizes the plot beautifully: "After an all-night send-off party for the troops, a small-town girl with an awkward boyfriend wakes up to find herself married and pregnant, but with no memory of her husband's identity." The movie was first shown in the U.K. in December of 1943. In January of '44 it was released in America. The movie was a huge hit with wartime audiences, and Sturges was nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay. The National Board of Review awarded Betty Hutton a Best Actress award and included the film in the top ten movies of 1944.
