Original MGM Insert Poster (14x36) for the Curtis Bernhardt musical, THE MERRY WIDOW (1952)-- starring Lana Turner, Fernando Lamas, Una Merkel, and Richard Haydn. Bernhardt's THE MERRY WIDOW is the third take on this story, preceded by the 1934 version starring Maurice Chevalier and the 1925 version starring Mae Murray. In this remake, Crystal Radek (Lana Turner) is the widow of a wealthy native of the fictional country of Marishkovia, which is now broke. So, the Marshkovian king dispatches Count Danilo (Fernando Lamas) to seduce Radek and bring her fortune back to its homeland. Turner's singing was panned and the film was not very successful, but as an MGM musical from the 50s it is a curious failure among such greats as SINGING IN THE RAIN, GIGI, LILI etc. A good image of Lana Turner, however, on a poster which is in very fine, folded, condition.
