United Artists Original Italian Four-Foglio Poster (79x55), for the first film of Marlon Brando, THE MEN (1950) directed by Fred Zinnemann. The film also stars the magnificent Teresa Wright, Jack Webb, Everett Sloane, Richard Erdman, Ray Teal and Polly Bergen. Brando plays a veteran who is adjusting to life without his limbs, having been injured in the war. An amazing role for someone who is appearing on screen for the first time. Brando researched his part by living among vets with injuries. His performance is extraordinary, very human, empathetic but never patronizing. For his first film, he had one of the very best directors, Zinnemann. The poster is a beautiful photograph, probably a Columbia Pictures studio photographl, hand tinted by the Italian designer. This is a rare poster. We have not seen this at auction before. The poster was used in a theater and we recommend linen-backing for it. Italian four-foglios are large format posters.
