A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinneman and starring Paul Scofield, Wendy Hiller, Orson Welles and Robert Shaw was released in 1966. The movie was a critical and box-office success and tells the story of the final years of Sir Thomas More, the 16th-century Lord Chancellor of England, who refused to sign a letter asking Pope Clement VII to annul the marriage of King Henry VIII of England's marriage to Catherine of Aragon and to declare Henry VIII the Supreme Head of the Church of England. Paul Scofield reprised his role from the West End stage production to play Sir Thomas More in the movie version. A Man for All Seasons won the Academy Award for Best Picture with Best Director going to Zinnemann and Best Actor to Paul Scofield.
