Original Universal One-Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Douglas Sirk classic melodrama, MAGNIFIENT OBSESSION (1954) based on the novel by Lloyd C. Douglas and starring Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson. This film was a remake of the 1935 version, which stars Irene Dunne and Robert Taylor. Just as the earlier film made Robert Taylor's career, this film was a breakthrough film for Rock Hudson. Indeed, he would do eight more successful movies with Sirk. In this film, Hudson plays a shallow, womanizing, heavy drinking, spoiled playboy. Causing an accident in which Wyman goes blind, he tries to redeem himself by giving selflessly to others and devoting his life to medicine to find a way to restore her eyesight. With excellent performances by Hudson and Wyman (who was nominated for Best Actress), superb production values, and an emotional classical score by Frank Skinner, this drama became an audience favorite.
