LOVE ME TENDER is the very first film that Elvis Presley made. It's a post-Civil War drama with a slight western edge. The young rock and roller comported himself rather well in the movies to many people's surprise. When looking at this film in 1956, one might have posited an acting career for Elvis. But Elvis would be wasted in most of the money-maker he films he made, and many of them are downright dreadful. But there are a few good ones and a few enduring ones.
