This is an original Universal Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Youssef Chahine drama, THE LAND (1969) starring Hamdy Ahmed, Yehia Chahine, and Ezzat El Alaili. This Egyptian film (AL-ARD) is set in the time of the monarchy and considered to be one of the best Egyptian films of its period. In some ways, it is a righteous polemic about cultivation and respect for the land and reminiscent of films such as King Vidor's OUR DAILY BREAD (1934) with its rousing back to the land, the power of self-reliance, and distrust of government message. In THE LAND the "city" is considered evil, and those farmers who abandon their crops and move to the city to get rich are evil too. This original one sheet poster is folded and in very fine condition.
