Original Warner Brothers Original Complete Set of 8 Lobby Cards (11x14) for the Howard Hawks Egyptian epic, THE LAND OF THE PHARAOHS (1955) starring Jack Hawkins, Joan Collins, Dewey Martin, and Alex Minotis. It was the mid-fifties, CinemaScope had arrived to try and rescue the movies from the clutches of the small screen in your living room. The widescreen was simply tailor-made for historical epics, and several of the great directors tried their hands at it. Robert Wise was given the task of bringing Homer's Iliad to life with HELEN OF TROY (1956). Michael Curtiz was filming THE EGYPTIAN (1954) at Fox. Hawks strove for profundity with LAND OF THE PHAROAHS, and if he didn't always succeed, no less a writer than William Faulkner worked on the screenplay. But the widescreen is filled up with beautiful sets and lavish production. Look for a good performance by Jack Hawkins. Hawkins, a good British actor, would go on to a truly memorable performance as Quintus Arrius in William Wyler's BEN HUR (1959), the last great epic of that decade. The cards are rich in detail and the colors are vivid. Condition ranges from very fine to very fine plus. Overall a very nice set.
