This poster is a very rare Italian poster for a postwar rerelease of the 1927 film KING OF KINGS, directed by Cecil B. DeMille. The film stars H.B. Warner, Dorothy Cumming, Ernest Torrence, Joseph Schildkraut, Charles Stevens, Louise Emmons, Rex Ingram and George F. Marion. One of many films about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, and one of the most famous. DeMille was skilled at pageantry, and wasn't above pandering with sex and violence to garner an audience for his spectacles. But THE KING OF KINGS is mostly reverent, cautiously filmed, a product of the silent era. Two images of Jesus are on the poster, one as teacher and the other as sacrifice. The poster dates from 1950, the first and probably only postwar release in Italy. Dazzling talent is on display here from the great Italian artist Anselmo Ballester. This poster is folded, and is a large format poster. Italian four foglio posters are printed on two panels which are joined together to present as one poster.
