Original U.S. Six-Sheet Poster Folded Fine Plus Condition
MGM Original U.S. Six-Sheet poster for the Richard Thorpe directed film JAILHOUSE ROCK (1957). The movie is very famous, of course, and it stars Elvis Presley. This was the third movie that Elvis made, and by the time this one was in theaters, Elvis was a household word. The film also stars Judy Tyler, Jennifer Holden and Don Burnett. When it was released on November 8, 1957, it opened to mediocre reviews. Elvis himself was generally the target of these. But in 2004, the film was included in the National Film Registry, deemed by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, aesthetically or historically significant." Not the first film to be so unfairly judged! The plot is not much, a story of a country boy that is incarcerated for accidentally killing a drunk in a brawl. He goes to prison, learns some guitar chords and starts to sing. The rest is history. What is exceptional about the film is that Elvis is given some top flight songs by Mike Stoller and Jerry Lieber. Oh, if he had only been offered music half this good for all those other films. Elvis fans got to see their hero in CinemaScope, and MGM produced the film with at least some respect. The poster is perhaps the most famous Presley image on a film poster, with stellar art of the pompadoured Elvis by Bradshaw Crandell. This is a large format poster and the condition is quite fine except for a small scratch on one panel.. Otherwise we would grade it as very fine, with vivid color and good paper integrity. There are only a few six-sheets for this title, and the overall effect of seeing it is impressive. MovieArt Original Film Posters in Austin, Texas guarantees that this poster is authentic.
