Vicki Baum was a novelist who wrote the novel MENSCHEM IM HOTEL, from which the film GRAND HOTEL was filmed in 1932. She also wrote HOTEL BERLIN, but this time the hotel is populated with spies, escapees from concentration camps, Nazi Officers. Warner Brothers rushed this film out in 1945, even as World War II was drawing to a close. The film is dotted with the latest news from the war, and the style is that familiar Warner Brothers grit. The movie is directed by Peter Godfrey and stars Faye Emerson, Helmut Dantine, Raymond Massey and Andrea King. Of course, Massey is well known, but Faye Emerson was an up and comer at that time. She had a minor career and ended up as a panelist on a television quiz show. But not before she gained some notoriety for marrying Elliot Roosevelt, the son of the President, during the filming of HOTEL BERLIN. If you watch the film look for Peter Lorre! This Italian poster was used in a cinema in Italy and the name of the cinema is printed at the top of the poster. Condition of the poster is graded as very good.
