Original U.S. Half-Sheet Poster (22x28) Rolled Theater-Used Fine Plus to Very Fine
Warner Bros original U.S. Half-Sheet Poster for the William A. Wellman film THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY (1954). Two decades before the AIRPLANE movies would captivate seventies audiences, the old war-horse Wellman was creating high drama in the skies with this entertaining potboiler. John Wayne plays the first officer on a plane with a catatrophic engine failure during a transatlantic flight. Wayne is supported by a very good cast including Claire Trevor (she makes anything she's in better), Laraine Day, Robert Stack, John Smith, Robert Easton, John Qualen and Douglas Fowley. All of these folks have hopes and dreams and going down in the Atlantic is not one of them. This is the nut on which the film is based. It cost less than 2 million dollars and made almost 9!. Based on a book by the popular novelist Ernest K. Gann,, the film was released on July 3, 1954 to mostly positive reviews. We like the panoramic look of the half sheet, with all the cast pictured. This poster was used in a theater, but has survived the decades unfolded, and we have graded it in fine plus condition, with only some small flaws. Colors are vivid. MovieArt Original Film Posters in Austin, Texas guarantees that this poster is vintage, authentic, original. MovieArt Austin does not sell reproductions.
