This was the period in which the major studios were filmsing biopics of show business figures from bygone decades - Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor, Sigmund Romberg, Cole Porter, Jane Froman, Ruth Etting and others. Here the director was veteran Michael Curtiz trying to inject some vitaltity into what was essentially a soap opera of the speakeasy era. We love the magnificent Ann Blyth, but here she was miscast. And it is Paul Newman who stands out. Some good tunes here, however. The poster is in fine condition, but does show some signs of use.
