The film was a sequel to the very famous Carpenter movie ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. Kurt Russell reprised his character Snake Plissken, a role he very much enjoyed. Indeed, much of the impetus to make the film came from Russell. While the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK has enjoyed much higher, longterm favor with critics and moviegoers, the L.A. outing is campier, enjoyable in it's own right.
