Paramount Pictures Original U.S. One-Sheet Poster (27x41) Folded Very Good Plus to Fine Condition
Paramount Pictures Original U.S. one-sheet poster (27x41, folded) for the David Lynch film THE ELEPHANT MAN (1980) starring John Hurt, John Gielgud, Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft. A highly honored film which tells the story of Joseph Merrick (in the film he is John Merrick), a severely disfigured man who lived in London in the nineteenth century. Merrick becomes something of a celebrity, attracting attention wanted and unwanted. The screenplay was written by Lynch, Eric Bergren and Christopher DeVore. Sometime after the film was released it became a celebrated play on Broadway starring David Bowie. The incredibly complex makeup applied to John Hurt was developed by Christopher Tucker. The recognition of the art of makeup was really spurred by this film, and the following year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences added an Oscar category for makeup. The movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards and was awarded Best PIcture Award at BAFTA. This poster was used in a theater and we have graded it in very good plus to fine condition, principally because of pinholes in the corner areas There are some modest signs of general use. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is an authentic, vintage U.S. one-sheet poster for this film. MovieArt Austin will sell no reproductions.
