Original Warner Brothers Italian four foglio poster (55x79) for Elia Kazan's dramatic masterpiece, EAST OF EDEN (1955) starring Julie Harris, James Dean, Raymond Massey, Richard Davalos, and Jo Van Fleet. This was James Dean's screen debut as the neurotic and troubled twin son of the Bible-reading lettuce farmer Massey. His performance was so riveting that he was nominated for Best Actor, the first posthumous acting nomination in Academy Award history as Dean had been killed in an automobile accident in September 1955 at the age of twenty-four. Other Academy nominations included Best Director for Kazan and Best Screenplay for Paul Osborn's adaptation of the popular John Steinbeck novel. Jo Van Fleet was nominated for and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as the mother of the twin brothers and a successful but embittered brothel madam in Monterey. This brilliant Italian poster has art by Luigi Martinati and is linen backed. Color on this poster is brilliant, unfaded. There are some border tears and paper replacements in the border and a small area of restoration in Dean's hair area. We think that in it's overall presentation, this poster is a very fine example of the poster from a visual perspective. No large areas of image replacement and vivid color.
