Original MGM 8x10 still photographs for the first release of the David Lean epic, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (1965), starring Omar Sharif, Julie Christie, Rod Steiger, and Tim Courtenay. This film portrays seamlessly the combination of the personal and political lives of the main characters through the period of World War I and the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards-- including Best Picture, Best Director for Lean, and Best Supporting Actor for Courtenay. The film won five Oscars, including Best Color Cinematography to Freddie Young and Best Original Music to Maurice Jarre. There are eight stills in the group. One of the stills shows a window display for the sale of the soundtrack of the film. The score was written by Maurice Jarre.
