She kept a diary of her experience in hiding. The diary was published after the war and became one of the most famous books of the 20th Century. The film has a sterling cast including Richard Beymer, Shelly Winters, Diane Baker, Lou Jacobi, Joseph Schildkraut and Edmond Purdom. The movie was filmed in CinemaScope on black and white stock, an extraordinary use of the widescreen medium in the claustrophobic confines of captivity. Anne is beautifully portrayed by Millie Perkins in easily her most famous role. Her boyfriend is winningly played by Richard Beymer, who would go on to play Tony in WEST SIDE STORY.
