Original United Artists Insert Poster (14x36) for the Jean Renoir romantic drama, DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID (1946) starring Paulette Goddard, Burgess Meredith, Hurt Hatfield, and Francis Lederer. Burgess Meredith adapted this screenplay from a novel by Octave Mirbeau. Goddard is excellent as a woman who takes the job of chambermaid in order to meet a rich husband, and she conveys her feelings and thoughts in her diary. Lederer keeps the tension going as the valet with something sinister going on in his head. Meredith and Goddard (husband and wife at the time) produced this bleak tale. The poster was originally folded, but has been stored flat, and we grade this poster as very good. There is some very general distress to the upper left corner, and one fold line has been repaired with archival mending tissue.
