Original U.S. Three-Sheet Poster Folded Fine Condition Superb!

Triangle Distributing Three-Sheet Poster from the 1917 Western film THE DESERT MAN. The film stars the greatest cowboy star of the era, William S. Hart. Hart handled the directing chores for this film also. The actress shown is Margery Wilson. The film is presumed lost. But fragments of the movie have been found. Fortunately, a very few posters from the movie have survived and the three sheet is among the most beautiful and romantic images in silent western posters. Hart was born in 1864, and achieved some fame as a stage actor, portraying Messala in the first stage version of BEN-HUR in 1899. Hart was fond of saying that he created the part of Messala, but the role, of course, originated in the book by General Lew Wallace. Hart, is, of course, world-famous in the history of silent film, but Margery Wilson's story is also very interesting. She lived to be 90 years old and appeared in 51 films. At the age of 16, and using her real name of Sara Barker Strayer, she formed a theatrical company and left with her sister for London where she began a world tour as musical performers. She appeared in films for the first time in 1915, and the following year she was cast in the D.W. Griffith epic INTOLERANCE. The poster shown here is a gorgeous stone lithograph. It is not backed, it's folded. Condition is fine. Considering that it is a century old, it is miraculous. MovieArt Original Film Posters in Austin, Texas guarantees that this poster is authentic.
