Original 20th Century-Fox Roadshow 35mm release three sheet poster (41x81) for the Joseph Mankiewicz historical super-epic, CLEOPATRA (1963) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Rex Harrison. Originally this film was supposed to be two three-hour moviesÑthe first dealing with Caesar and Cleopatra and the second with Antony and Cleopatra. But Fox, reeling the exorbitant cost overruns associated with this debacle, decided to release one four hour movie instead. Elizabeth TaylorÕs original contract stipulated that she was to be paid $1 million. But after a lengthy $50 million lawsuit brought by the studio against Burton and Taylor and then a countersuit by Taylor, the studio finally settled with the actress for $7 million. This three sheet was printed for the general release of the film after the roadshow run, and the poster reflects a different campaign. This poster is a large format poster. Three sheets are printed on two separate panel which are joined together to display as one poster. This poster has some modest defects. The paper is a somewhat shiny paper and it difficult to photograph without reflections. We believe that this poster would be a great candidate for linen backing.
