Original Columbia Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Otto Preminger war drama, THE CARDINAL (1964) starring Tom Tryon, Carol Lynley, Dorothy Gish, and John Huston. Preminger directed this film about the life of a priest who rises in the the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy, chronicling his struggles along the way-- first against Nazism and later against racial bigotry in the American South. The chemistry between Tom Tryon and the sometimes tyrannical Preminger was not good, and Tryon remembers the filming of THE CARDINAL as one of the most unhappy experiences of his acting life. THE CARDINAL is an even-handed look at the church. Certainly this film would not be likely today. The one sheet has art at least partially designed by Saul Bass. Folded, theater-used, but in very fine condition. There is an alternate style with only the Bass art and no photography.
