U.S. One-Sheet Poster (27x41) Linen Backed Fine Plus Condition
Universal Pictures Original One Sheet Poster for the 1929 film BROADWAY, directed by Pal Fejos (billed as Paul Fejos). The film was adapted from a play of the same name written by George Abbott and Philip Dunning. The film stars Glenn Tryon, Evelyn Brent, Paul Porcasi, Robert Ellis, Merna Kennedy and Thomas E. Jackson. The play had been a sensation on Broadway, a hard-boiled crime story set on the Great White Way. Very realistic for its time, the dialogue employed the talk of the street and a gritty atmosphere. The play opened in September, 1926 at the Broadhurst Theater and ran for 602 performances. The enormous popularity of the play may be the reason that Universal Pictures mogul Carl Laemmle, Jr. paid a whopping $225,000 for the film rights. Universal cast some of their better players in the movie. No expense was spared, including shooting the film as a silent version and as a sound version. In addition this was the first film for which Universal employed Technicolor, using it for the final sequences. Pal Fejos was an interesting character and a great innovator. He invented a camera crane for use in this film, which greatly increased camera mobility, giving the film a vibrant "look." The film was restored in 2013 by The Criterion Collection and is available as a Blu-Ray. By the poster and we'll throw in the Blu-Ray disc. This one sheet is printed in sepia and has a great look. Photos of the principal players are seen, and the poster is clearly made for the silent version of the film. Condition is very fine, on linen. MovieArt Austin guarantees this poster to be an authentic one-sheet for this film. Entirely different posters exist to advertise the sound version. MovieArt Austin will sell NO reproductions.
