Buena Vista Pictures Original U.S. Advance One-Sheet Poster for the animation feature THE BLACK CAULDRON (1985). Production of the film was supervised by Ted Berman and Richard Rich. A venture into sword and sorcery characterized this animated feature. The film was based on two books by Lloyd Alexander which were in turn based on Welsh mythology. The most expensive animated film made to date, the production ran into big trouble when previews indicated that the end of the film was disturbing to kids. Consequently the film was delayed from release until a fix could be found. It never quite was, and the movie bombed for the Disney Company. One interesting aspect of the film is the score by Elmer Bernstein, which is regarded as one of the best film scores for any animated film. The film has developed a cult following over time with animation enthusiasts. This poster was used in a theater, and we have graded in it generally good condition because of a small amount of damage (very small) at the bottom edge of the poster.
