Original Paramount Pictures Style A One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Harold French war drama, THE AVENGERS (1942) starring Hugh Williams, Griffith Jones, Deborah Kerr, and Ralph Richardson. 1940s British cinema is understandably packed with wartime propaganda pieces, and this film (British title: THE DAY WILL DAWN) is markedly more propagandistic than most of the period. Williams plays a British foreign correspondent investigating German U-boat activities in Norway. The Brits of course save the day from the cowardly Germans. And though sacrifice is made; the greater good is served. Notice the Morse Code dot-dot-dot-dash across the bottom -- the Allies moniker of Victory.
