Original RKO Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Chester Erskine comedy, ANDROCLES AND THE LION (1952) starring Jean Simmons, Victor Mature, and Alan Young. Based on the play by George Bernard Shaw, this is the story of the Christian, Androcles, who one day removes a huge thorn from the paw of a lion, creating a friend for life. Androcles is arrested along with other Christians and condemned to death in the arena, where his life friend the lion refuses to kill him. Shaw was always hesitant about allowing his plays to be made into films. He found a competent producer in Gabriel Pascal, who loved Shaw's works. Shaw gave him a contract to produce all his plays, including this one that was made after Shaw's death. This original three sheet poster is folded and in fine condition with only some scribbling on the reverse side, minor fold separation at the fold intersection, and minor smudges.
