Original Warner Brothers One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Ken Russell horror fantasy, ALTERED STATES (1980) starring William Hurt, Blair Brown, Bob Balaban, and Drew Barrymore. The film tells the story of a Harvard scientist (Hurt) who conducts experiments on himself with a hallucinatory drug and an isolation chamber that may be causing him to regress genetically. Paddy Chayefsky wrote the original novel and adapted the screenplay from it; however, he ultimately disowned the film. He objected to the general tone of the movie and the fact that the actors often had to shout his lines. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Sound and Best Original Score. It was the film debut for Hurt and Barrymore, and Hurt received a Golden Globe nomination for New Male Star of the Year. This original one sheet poster is folded. It was used in a theater in Canada, and it has a province of Quebec censor stamp on it. In addition, the ratings box, which was irrelevant in Canada, has been covered up with a piece of tape.
