Considered by some critics to be a B-movie masterpiece, the film tells the story of a Union army unit of misfits and rejects, who are commanded by Glenn Ford. The music was written by Randy Sparks and performed by The New Christy Minstrels. The Christy's greatest hit "Today" was written for this film.
