The movie is written by Ruth Gordon, and one could say that it is semi-autobiographical. It concerns the aspirations of a young girl who wants to be an actresss. Her father, played by Spencer Tracy is skeptical. This was a good film for Tracy, who won the BAFTA for Best Performance by An Actor.
